General Questions

The following questions are designed to get a sense of your general experience and skills as well as your interest in YMAU. The subsequent sections will be divided by secretariat structure: Operations (logistics planning) and Programme (content planning).

 

List any conference or conference planning experience at Yale or elsewhere. Please clarify in detail what role you had and when this experience occurred.

Being part of the Yale Model African Union board will be a significant time commitment, especially as this is the first iteration of the conference. How will you ensure you have time for this? (Please include all your extracurricular/work commitments and how many hours you spend on them each week in list format, in addition to your summer plans if youโ€™ve decided them).

Please list any other skills you could bring to the Secretariat or relevant experience. This can include experience in teaching, event planning, graphics design, language skills and more.

Operational Position Questions

Organization skills, time management, and accountability are necessary characteristics for the operations team. What experience do you have with managing or being a part of a team, organizing an event or conference, or any other experience that would translate to being on the operations team.

Please note that our conference is geared towards African college students.

How do you plan to recruit enough delegates and retain them? Specifically, how can YMAU I differentiate itself from other conferences in the region or attract university students that have never done Model African Union before. What do you envision as YMAU Iโ€™s brand? How can this aesthetic help with recruitment and sponsorships? Please note that this will be the very first Model African Union hosted by an Ivy League institution and the first Model anything conference hosted by an American university in Africa. So feel free to get creative as this is a completely unique opportunity!

What sort of experience do you have shaping educational experiences, working in customer service, or just more generally working in a creative environment that would translate well to being on the programme team.

How do you envision the Model African Union simulation being structured in a way that is authentic to the organization it is modeling? What is your vision for the YMAU I committees (feel free to list examples of topics)? What format do you envision for the Leadership Development Workshops? These can be both skill-building workshops or more general knowledge sharing workshops. The goal for these is ultimately to encourage Pan-African dialogue and for those who attend to leave having gained something tangible.
